A Timeline

1600′s > The Ludovisi family’s roof tile earns fame in Rome. The family moves to Germany, producing tile under the name Ludowici.

1800′s > Carl Ludowici moves to Chicago.

1888 > The Celadon Roofing Tile Company is formed in Alfred, NY under the leadership of George Babcock.

1902 > Celadon purchased the Imperial Brick plant in New Lexington, OH and converts it into the largest clay tile plant in the US.

1906 > Ludowici purchases Celadon and becomes Ludowici-Celadon with five production locations.

1914 > The New Lexington plant doubles in size.

1976 > CSC purchases Ludowici-Celadon, making renovations and improvements.

1989 > CertainTeed purchases Ludowici-Celadon, renaming the company Ludowici Roof Tile.

2003 > Ludowici merges with Terreal: Europe’s largest manufacturer of clay building products.

2007 > Ludowici opens the Factory of Ideas: a hands-on product experience.

What’s covered and for how long

Ludowici warrants its clay tile to be free from manufacturing defects and to maintain color-fastness during the 75-year period following sale of the tile to the original purchaser.

If any tiles prove to be defective during the warranty period, Ludowici will replace the defective tiles or refund the original purchase price for the defective tiles.
