Green Roof has taken on many meanings. Most people’s thoughts when hearing Green Roof immediately go to the newly popular roof gardens and living roofs that have vegetation on them. However Green Roofing is also called Sustainable Roofing systems. These systems are available through pretty much any manufacturer and simply mean they help the environment. The most common logo today, the Energy Star can be seen on all types of products including roofing systems from membranes to shingles. Many features can make a roofing material / system green from the light, reflective color offered by virtually every manufacturer to systems like the 2001 Company Wind Vented system that allows wet roof systems to be dried out instead of torn off and filling our landfills. Many roofing products are also being made with recycling in mind so if they are torn off, instead of filling the landfill the material can be recycled into other useful products. The roofing industry is most definitely one of the pioneers establishing ways to improve our environment while giving the consumer the best value possible.
